Wild Animals??

While we are of no fixed address, we are using Gramma and Grampa Wilson's house as Home Base.  They live in rural Parry Sound, in a small community called Orville, which is surrounded by bush.  This means that there are lots of wild animals, including moose, deer, and bear among lots of others.  It is not surprising to see a few deer slip out of the bushes at twilight in order to munch on the luscious grass on their property.  We haven't seen a bear yet this year, although there have been sightings of bears lumbering along in the ditches on the sides of the roads near by.

Our kids get very excited at the idea of seeing wild animals.  They have been following a family of skunks that seem to be hanging out around the tree line this summer, and there are two deer who regularly come to eat on the property.  Their voices get shrill as they call to each other, "You've got to see this!"  I love to see the wonder in their eyes and the excitement on their faces as they all watch together, and marvel at God's creatures.

While we are en route to Tuktoyaktuk, I expect we will see lots of different animals along the way.  One of the roads I am most excited to travel is the Dawson Highway, which is full of animals, Northern animals!  We have been told we can be expected to see polar bears, caribou, muskox, puffins, killer whales and narwhals this year.  Wow!  These are animals I never expected to see in the wild!  Of course, I never expected that I would see the Arctic Ocean either!

While we are thoroughly enjoying our time with family and friends before we journey to our new home in Tuk, we can't help but wonder and speculate on what we will be seeing and experiencing in the next year, and all of us have admitted to being very excited at the possibilities.  I must say, that I am relieved to hear that from the kids because they have had to give up a lot for us to go ahead with this adventure, and it is a true test to their sense of adventure that they are as excited as they are.

So....who will be the first to see a polar bear?  Who will be the first to put their foot in the Arctic Ocean?  Will be able to count the numbers in the herds of caribou on the Dawson Highway?  How exciting!!
